Free will vs invultuation by gurus in the name of ‘surrender’

The debates over free will tend to dominate monotheistic religions: the issues are rarely discussed in the context of new age guru cults. But the worst case loss of ‘free will’ is in the gurur game, and the loss of ‘freedom’ is very real indeed. Monotheistic religions are in fact analogous here, and despite their assumptions about free will tend to renounce free will all over again in the name of the ‘will of god’.
The age of human freedom has dawned, and these cults/religions belong to an earlier era. Strange then that scientists tend to lose the thread of modernity here.
